Our New Chapter
2020 was quite a year. We focused our energy on gardening and a small veggie and garlic plot. With little socialization due to the pandemic, that summer the kids were eager to set up a stand and collect quarters for the extra produce. Little did we know that just 2 years later we would begin revitalizing a farm dating back to 1810.
Meet the Owners, Kurt & Crystal
We thrive on nature. Whether it is hunting, gardening, walking, swimming, fishing, there is no place we would rather be from dawn until dusk. There is something about being outside in the sun, getting a little dirty, working hard, watching a seed bloom, the taste of a homegrown tomato that grounds each one of us.
We remember putting in the large bay window at our previous house, looking out into the few acres of land we wish we could purchase. Just as our family was beginning to outgrow our small ranch, the covid pandemic struck and an opportunity arose. It was one of tireless work and included those few acres we daydreamed of, plus 80 more.
If there was one piece of advice we could give besides enjoying the outdoors and working hard, it would be to do something that scares you. Take the risk. Every spare moment we put into this house and farm while raising young children. This past year we planted over 1000 garlic, 200 fruit trees, 150 Christmas trees, 200 lavender, 125 peonies, and will continue with heirloom cut flower specialties. We added chickens, a few ducks, and quail. Kurt threw in a patch of sunflowers and the kids asked to set up chairs to sell a few bumper veggies and flowers at the end of August. It was just that spontaneous late season setup that made us realize how our efforts could be rewarded one day.
Kurt grew up locally on a farm and is a self-proclaimed night and weekend farmer aside from his full-time career. Anyone that knows Kurt, envies his analytical mind. If there is something to fix, or get the job done, it’s him. An avid hunter and fisherman, their children have followed in his footsteps and spend their best times outside, working and playing. Kurt’s specialties include cedar bird boxes, fruit & Christmas trees, chickens, dahlias, and vegetables.

She is honored to be a member of the Green Township Board of Education.

We are so lucky to have that one person who reminds us what our path could be. For our family, that is Aunt Mindy. She is nothing less than the best: supportive, brilliant, intuitive, and inspiring. I hope each one of you come across an Aunt Mindy to spice up your life.
